As Transport for Greater Manchester framework architects we were invited to bid for the redesign of the ticket office building at Hattersley Station, Greater Manchester. Following a successful bid we were appointed to explore design options ranging from a refurbishment of the existing building to total demolition and new build. We took the opportunity to explore a design which solved many of the functional issues of the existing ticket office by re-orientating the building to open up the public realm and create a development which would sit comfortably on the site as a contemporary beacon of an area currently undergoing vast improvements and a much needed image change.
