Strzala Architects as lead consultant and architects worked closely with Hyder Consulting on the refurbishment of a neglected listed station building for Lancashire County Council and MerseyTravel.

Externally the scheme consists of repairs to existing brickwork and stonework, reinstatement of original features, platform canopy works and a new entrance canopy. Internal refurbishment includes a new contemporary waiting room and booking hall, new ticket office and staff areas along with a commercial office suite.
The design team worked closely with the client body, Network Rail, the Railway Heritage Trust and the local conservation officer to produce a scheme that demonstrates a contemporary intervention within a sensitive listed building, bringing the stations functionality in line with current best practice and design.
